Burns Lake native Emily Dickson collapses at the finish after helping Canada to an eighth-place finish Jan. 22 at the World Cup biathlon women's 4 X 6 km relay at Antholz-Anterdelva, Italy. Dickson is preparing for the IBU BMW world championships in Oberhof, Germany.

The countdown is on for Burns Lake biathlete Emily Dickson.

She’s got just two more sleeps until she lines up at the start gate at the IBU BMW world championships in Oberhof, Germany.

Coming off one of the best results of her World Cup career, the 26-year-old former Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member is scheduled to race Friday in the women’s 7.5-kilometre sprint.

At a World Cup event Jan. 22 in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy, Dickson raced the anchor leg of the women’s 4 X 6 km relay and helped Canada to an eighth-place finish. That came after she posted her best-ever individual result as a World Cup athlete when she placed 66th in the sprint.

Her 60th-place finish Jan. 7, 2022 in the sprint in Oberhof was Dickson’s highest World Cup placing.

Dickson tuned up for world championships last week at Obertilliach, Austria on the IBU Cup circuit, placing 25th in the sprint.

The world championships started Wednesday and Canada finished eighth out of 26 teams in the 4 X 6 km mixed relay.

The Canadians (Emma Lunder of Vernon; Nadia Moser of Whitehorse, Adam Runnells of Calgary and Christian Gow of Canmore) were 2:22.8 behind the gold medalists from Norway.
