Boogaard played three seasons in Prince George

Derek Boogaard was acquired by the Prince George Cougars in a WHL trade from the Regina Pats in 1999. He played with the Cougars until the 2002 season when he was traded to the Medicine Hat Tigers where he finished his junior hockey career.

During his time with the Cougars Boogaard played in 96 games and racked up 410 minutes in penalties, along with a goal and eight assists. Boogaard's lone goal came in overtime during a playoff game against Portland.
