Sean Bernard can now call himself a world ultimate silver medallist.

Bernard, a 34-year-old Grade 6/7 Heritage elementary school teacher from Prince George, won a silver medal Friday as part of Calgary-based Fig Jam Ultimate at the World Ultimate Club championships in Lecco, Italy.

Fig Jam, a team Bernard has tossed the frisbee with for the last two seasons, lost the master's men's final 17-8 to Boneyard, a team from the U.S.

Bernard is one of three imports (players outside of Calgary) on the 24-man roster.

Fig Jam posted a 4-1 record in their Pool C, posting victories against Japan's Junk (15-6), Germany's Goldfingers (15-5), U.S.-based Johnny Encore (15-13), and Italian hosts Mucche Ultimate Bergamo (15-6). Their only loss came against Australia's Phat Chilly (15-12).

Fig Jam's round-robin record earned them a bye into the quarter-finals where they beat Great Britain's Zimmer 17-13. They avenged their earlier round-robin loss to Phat Chilly and beat them 17-14 in the semifinals to advance to Friday's final.

Fig Jam was ranked 10th overall in the 24-team division for players between 33 to 38 years-old.
