BCHL playoff format explained

If the standings remain unchanged at the end of the B.C.

If the standings remain unchanged at the end of the B.C. Hockey League regular season, the second-place Prince George Spruce Kings and third-place Coquitlam Express will face each other in a best-of-seven opening-round series that would start in Prince George.

The first-place Langley Rivermen would host the fourth-place Surrey Eagles in the other division series with the winners advancing to play each other in a best-of-seven second round matchup. The same first-versus-fourth, second-versus-third matchups will apply to the Interior and Island divisions.

The BCHL's new playoff format makes all opening-round series as best-of-seven affairs, replacing the best-of-five format used in previous years.

The third round of playoffs will bring the champions of the Mainland, Island and Interior divisions together to contest a six-game round-robin tournament. Based on regular season points, the highest seeded divisional playoff winner will host the first two games of the round robin against each of the other division champions. Games 3 and 4 of the round robin would be played at the home of the second-highest seed, followed by two games in the home rink of the third-highest finishing divisional champion.

The two teams with the best record in the round-robin tournament advance to the Fred Page Cup league championships series, also a best-of-seven. If at any time during the round robin one team is eliminated, the rest of the schedule would be scrapped and two remaining teams would then prepare to face each other.
