Free instruction from professional players?

Now there's an offer no kid with an interest in football could refuse.

The B.C. Lions' Play with the Pros instruction camp is coming to Prince George this Sunday, from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. at Lac du Bois school (formerly Lakewood junior secondary school).

Lions slotback Shawn Gore and second-year safety Cauchy Muamba will make the trip to Prince George. Coaches from the Prince George Minor Football Association will assist the pros in conducting drills for the young players at the fourth annual camp.

"It's always a great event when you've got the Lions in town and it's special for the kids to get to interact with some guys who are playing professional football," said PGMFA president Ryan Bellamy.

The free camp, open to kids aged six to 15, will feature introductory sessions on passing, catching, rushing, kicking, offensive line, defensive line, defensive secondary, and linebacker play.

There is no pre-registration required. Kids should come to the field one hour before the camp begins. Each player should come equipped with athletic shoes or cleats, shorts and a water bottle.

For more information call Dychelle Williams, 250-961-5595 or go to www.PGMFA.com.

n With the season starting Aug. 27, registration in the PGMFA now stands at about 100 players. League registrar Amber Spence says there has been a rush of new players at the atom level (six- to nine-year-olds), many of whom took advantage of the league's offer on no-fee football for the first 25 atoms who signed up.

"We already have 33 atoms, so we already have enough for two atom teams," said Spence.

The league also has 23 peewees, 31 junior bantams and 15 bantam-aged players.

League fees are $50 for atoms and $195 for peewees (10-11 year olds), junior bantams (12-13) and bantams (14-16).

Teams started practices on July 19. Games will be played on Saturdays until late October.
