The Prince George Barracuda Swim Club had 10 athletes competing last week at the 2012 Speedo Western Canadian Championship in Winnipeg from Feb. 16 to 18 at the Pan Am Pool.
The women finished in fifth-place overall and the men finished 12th overall.
Several of the Barracuda swimmers returned home with medals and/or set new personal best times.
Danica Ludlow earned a silver medal in the 200-metre freestyle, setting a new club record of two minutes, 1.98 seconds. She also set a Barracuda record in the 800-metre freestyle with an 8:45.69.
Patricia Fortier set three personal bests in the 200 freestyle, 2:09.63, coming 18th; the 200 individual medley, 2:24.43, coming eighth; and the 800 freestyle, 9:17.40, coming 18th.
Sterling King placed fourth in the 200 freestyle clocking in at 1:53.05 and was fifth, with a club record 57.13 in the 100-metre butterfly. In the 1500-metre freestyle King was 12th with a 16:16.60.
Sava Yungman was 19th in the 200-metre freestyle (1:58.79); 27th in the 200-metre IM (2:19.77) and 10th in the 100-metre butterfly (59.01).
Samantha Bleackley placed 19th in the 100-metre breaststroke at 1:16.45, while Bailey Hardy was 24th in the same event at 1:17.04.
Haley Black returned to Prince George with three medals, three personal bests and two club records. She earned gold and silver medals in the 100-metre butterfly (1:00.23) and 50-metre backstroke (29.62) respectively, setting club records. Black also took bronze in the 200-metre IM with a 2:21.16.
Jessa Wing was 34th in the 200-metre IM (2:29.58) and 27th in the 800-metre freestyle (9:26.92), setting a personal best in the latter.
The final two competitors were Claire Shrimpton and Harrison Lagzdin. Shrimpton was 23rd in the 100-metre butterfly (1:09.38) while Lagzdin was 18th in the 1500-metre freestyle with a personal best 16:34.20.
