Danica Ludlow and Sterling King set a gold standard at the triple-A short course provincial swimming championships over the weekend in Victoria.
Both Prince George Barracudas Swim Club members climbed to the top of the medal podium in multiple events at the provincial meet and did so in club-record fashion.
Ludlow's weekend was highlighted by first-place results in the 800-, 400-, 200- and 100-metre freestyle and 200m backstroke finals. She established club records for 14-year-old girls in the 100 free (56.78 seconds) and 200 free (2:16.08) and teamed up with Haley Black, Jessa Wing and Patricia Fortier to smash the Barracudas record for 14-year-olds in the 4 X 50m freestyle relay, finishing fifth in 1:55.43. Ludlow, Black, Wing and Bailey Hardy teamed up in the 4 X 50m medley relay to finish second and set a new club mark of 2:04.11.
King won the 15-17-year-old boys 200- and 400-free event, was second in the 1,500 free, fifth in the 400 individual medley, third in the 200 butterfly, and sixth in the 200IM. His time of 1:54.91 in the 200 free was a club record-breaker.
In other Barracuda results, Savah Yungman (13-14-year-old boys) was first in the 100 free, fifth in 100 fly, and teamed up with Josiah Binnema, Harrison Lagzdin and Ethan Godden to break the 'Cudas record in the 4 X 50 medley relay, finishing 12th. Those same four swimmers clocked 1:48.62 in the 4 X 50 freestyle relay, also a club record.
Katie Mann won the 16-18-year-old girls 400 IM and 200 breaststroke events, was second in 100 breaststroke, fifth in the 100 fly, and set a new 'Cudas record in the 200 IM with a second-place time of 2:17.67.
Claire Shrimpton raised the 15-17-year-old club standard in the 200 fly, finishing fourth in 2:25.38. The Barracudas veteran was also second in the 100 breaststroke. Black was also a record-setter with a 200IM time of 2:23.13. She also won the 400IM, was fifth in 200 backstroke, and third in 100 backstroke.
Kathryn Binnema (15-year-old girls) was seventh in the 800 freestyle, sixth in 400IM, fifth in 200 fly and seventh in 200 breaststroke. Her brother Josiah (13 year-old boys) was eighth in the 1,500 free, fifth in 400IM, sixth in 200 fly, seventh in 100 backstroke, and eighth in 100 fly.
Grace Ni (16-18-year-old girls) was second in the 100 backstroke, second in 200 back, second in 100 free, seventh in 800 free, and eighth in 400 IM. Lagzdin (14-year-old boys) was third in 100 free, fourth in the 400 IM, third in 100 free, fifth in 200 IM, seventh in 1,500 free, and seventh in 100 back.
Samantha Bleackley (12-year-old girls) was eighth in the 400 IM, fifth in 100 breaststroke and eighth in 200 breast. Kailey Tress (16-18 year-old girls) was eighth in the 800 freestyle final. Wing (14-year-old girls) placed seventh in the 400 IM, seventh in 200 back, and eighth in 100 back. Hardy was (14-year-old girls) was fifth in the 200 back. Montana Forster (12-year-old girls) was fifth in the 400 IM, sixth in 200 fly and eighth in the 200 IM.
The Barracudas placed 10th overall out of 40 teams.
