Balazs leads northern runners at provincials

Emma Balazs had the fleetest feet. Balazs, a Grade 10 student at Kelly Road secondary school, was the north central zone's top-placing athlete at the cross-country running high school provincial championships, held in Victoria on the weekend.

Balazs, a Grade 10 student at Kelly Road secondary school, was the north central zone's top-placing athlete at the cross-country running high school provincial championships, held in Victoria on the weekend. In a field of 297 runners, Balazs finished 13th overall, with a time of 16 minutes 48 seconds.

Hilary Desmarais of Nechako Valley (17:18) was 24th.

On the boys side, Jack Carrigan of Dawson Creek's South Peace secondary, posted the top north central result. He was 47th out of 269. Rob McDougall, a Grade 12 student from D.P. Todd, finished 49th, while Grade 12 College Heights runner Sam Goodrich crossed the finish line 50th.
