Jose Araujo helped the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves' men's basketball take sole possession of the second place last weekend in the PACWEST with a pair of victories on the Lower Mainland.
His strong effort was rewarded this week when Araujo received the player of the week nod from PACWEST. It's the second straight week a UNBC athlete has received the award. Jen Clyne picked up the honour last week for the women.
Araujo, a fourth-year guard, turned in an outstanding performance Friday in the T-wolves 84-56 win over the Douglas College Royals. Araujo had 29 points, with 23 coming in the second half, and made 50 per cent of his shots from beyond the three-point line. He also had five assists and four rebounds.
In Saturday's 104-77 win over the Columbia Bible College Bearcats, Araujo contributed 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Both T-wolves teams are off this weekend in preparation for the final home games of the season Feb. 3 and 4 against the Capilano University Blues and Quest University Kermodes.
The male T-wolves (8-2) are two points behind the Vancouver Island University Mariners (9-1), while the female T-wolves (10-0) are a game ahead of the Mariners (9-1).
