Tuesday in Colwood, the bantam female Cats defeated the rival North Shore Avalanche 3-2 to finish first in their pool and qualify for the playoff semifinals. On a set play, the Cats got the winning goal from Carla Goodwin with 34 seconds left in the game.

Madison Fjellstrom and Jocelyn Forrest also scored for the Cougars, while Avery Quiring picked up the victory in net.

The Cougars, now 3-0 at the 10-team tournament, will face the second-place finisher from the other pool in a semifinal game this morning.

The gold-medal final will be on the ice tonight.

Earlier in the tournament, Prince George defeated the South Island Royals 5-3 and the West Kootenay Wildcats 2-1.

"The girls are playing very well as a team right now and it's fantastic," said coach Don Knoop. "I'm just so impressed with their commitment."
