City council voted in favour of an increase to bus fares by 25 cents a ride. The regular fare will be $2.25 and a student/senior fare will be $1.75 beginning in September.

The B.C. Forest Service is getting some traction in the fight against the Greer Creek forest fire.

The fire located about 30 km south west of Vanderhoof was very active over night, according to the BC Wildfires website. The size of the fire has increased to 5,200 hectares due to wind and continued dry conditions.

In Burns Lake, where the population is about 2,500, RCMP are kept busy. During the week of June 14 to 21, the police responded to 96 calls for service.
