While Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his cabinet on Nov. 20, Andrew Scheer has announced his shadow cabinet.

The leader of the Federal Conservatives and Official Opposition included both incumbent Prince George MPs in the appointments made public today (Nov. 29).

Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer has been named Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs and Northern Economic Development Agency.

“Our Conservative team is united, experienced and focused on finishing the job we started and replacing the Trudeau Liberals,” Scheer said in a release. “The Shadow Cabinet I have announced today reflects the growing strength of our team and our commitment to work for Canadians from coast to coast.”

Zimmer was voted in for a third-straight term on Oct. 21, 2019 after he was first elected in 2011.

In his last appointment, he served as Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus and Chair of the BC/Yukon Conservative Caucus.

“I am honoured to have been asked to serve in the Shadow Cabinet for the Official Opposition as Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs and Northern Economic Development Agency," Zimmer added.

"I was born and raised in the north and I look forward to continuing to be a strong advocate for Canada’s northern communities with this new role and holding the Liberal government to account on issues that affect Canadians living in these regions."

Cariboo-Prince George incumbent Todd Doherty, meanwhile, was named Shadow Minister for Transport.

"It is an honour to be named Shadow Minister for Transport," said the second-term Conservative MP in a separate statement.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of holding the Minister to account while working collaboratively to ensure the best policy for Canadians.

Doherty has represented Canada on the world stage numerous times including Europe, the Middle East, Asia and on America's trade missions, industry conferences and on industry regulatory panels.

Both Zimmer and Doherty won their respective ridings in the 2019 federal election by significant margins.
