Bob Zimmer has been elected vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

The Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP shares the position with NDP Manitoba MP Niki Ashton, and the committee is led by Liberal Bryan May.

The committee studies employment, labour, income security, skills development and disability issues, administers the Centennial Flame Research Award and studies programs administered by Employment and Social Development Canada.

"I am honoured to have been elected vice-chair of this important committee," said Mr. Zimmer in a statement Monday.

He was elected to the position last Wednesday.

"I look forward to examining the issues that touch the lives of all Canadians and to continue to provide a voice of reason for Canadian taxpayers."

Zimmer also acts as deputy critic for Families, Children and Social Development, chair of the BC/Yukon Conservative Caucus, chair of the National Prayer Breakfast, and co-chair of the All-Party Outdoors Caucus.
