Youth victim of Saturday night stabbing

A youth was taken into Prince George RCMP custody after a stabbing at a house party Saturday night.

A youth was taken into Prince George RCMP custody after a stabbing at a house party Saturday night.

RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a party at a residence in the 2700 block of Moyie Street where a youth victim was transported to University Hospital of Northern B.C. with non-life-threatening injuries. The weapon is alleged to have been a broken beer bottle.

The suspect was released into the custody of a guardian and will appear in court at a later date.

Cpl. Craig Douglass, RCMP spokesperson, said with the information he was provided with neither of the youths were on the police the radar screen.

"From what I gather it was a couple young people at a party and basically a fight broke out," said Douglas. "I think it was teenage stupidity more than anything. In these situations, especially with no history, we're not inclined to do [release ages, sex] because we don't want to victimize them by providing anything, even a sex, could lead towards potentially identifying them."

No further details will be released in this case due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are looking for any witnesses to the incident to come forward with information by contacting RCMP at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The victim suffered non-serious injures of a laceration to the arm and a flesh wound to the chest.
