Local young people who've caught the political bug will be interested in one of 95 from across the province to win a spot in the 82nd British Columbia youth parliament.

Those behind the parliament have put out a call for nominations for this year's sitting, which runs Dec. 27 to 31.

Activities include debating education and service projects, establishing BCYP financial commitments and amending BCYP governing legislation.

After the session, members put their plans into action in their community including, volunteer service projects; Camp Phoenix, an annual children's camp for first time campers; regional youth parliaments; fundraising events; and social activities with other members.

The processes and procedures are the same as for the provincial legislature. However, members do not sit as representatives from any political party but as independent members instead.

Applicants must be nominated by an organization committed to youth such as a school, community group, club or church and all application forms must be received by October 20.
