More than 250 young people from across the province are expected to converge on Prince George later this month for a student leadership conference.

Set for Oct. 21 to 24 at Prince George secondary school, the Generation YES (Youth Exploring Solutions) conference will challenge participants to find solutions regarding climate change, poverty and illiteracy and then take action in their schools and communities.

Award winning Inuit Artist Susan Aglukark will deliver the keynote address and provide a self-esteem workshop.

Other speakers include Kim Plewes from the Me to We movement, Eva Harden from World Vision Canada, Ian Tyson co-founder of Leadership Camps Canada, Alaina Podmorrow of Little Women for Afghanistan and Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait from Run for 1 Planet.

"Typically, these conferences have great messages and lots of entertainment and while Generation YES has that in spades, this conference is different," organizing committee chair Cindy Smith said in a statement. "We have booked speakers and workshop presenters that deliver a 'take action' message. Students will be inspired to engage in solutions-based action at the local level."

The conference is put on by the British Columbia Association of Student Activity Advisors in partnership with Prince George School District 57, the College Heights secondary leadership program and Integris Credit Union.
