Truckers will soon have what happens during a rig rollover explained to them in detail.
The BC Forest Safety Council is holding a free workshop in Prince George to break down that kind of incident before they happen on local roads. Log truckers have been frequent victims of fatal or serious injury incidents all over the province as they haul B.C.'s most popular commodity.
"Grant Aune of Advantage Fleet Services delivers this dynamic two-hour presentation designed for log truck drivers, loader operators, supervisors and fleet managers and focuses on the dynamics involved in heavy commercial vehicle rollovers," said a BCFSC statement. According to Aune, there are five primary causes of rig rollovers, and these should be known by the drivers and the other forest sector workers who work with them.
In this presentation entitled Anatomy of a Rollover, participants will learn:
Importance of professionalism and attitude towards driving;
Rollover dynamics - determining the rollover threshold;
Five causes of rollover;
Load security and the importance of understanding the center of mass;
Techniques to avoid rollovers;
How the environment affects rollovers.
The knowledge session is on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Esther's Inn, and includes a buffet lunch.
