An upcoming seminar for entrepreneurs in the Prince George area will focus on bridging the gap between a fledgling business dream and the money it takes to make it come true.

"The purpose is to help technology startups, entrepreneurs and small/medium enterprises looking to grow their businesses locally, regionally and globally by accessing the best investment opportunities," said Ernest Daddey, executive director of the Innovation Central Society.

The workshop will cover topics such as what are the sources of money for a new company; how does one correctly value a pre-revenue company; what areas of a startup company require due diligence; what are the key ingredients of a pitch to investors; and what attributes of management are important to investors.

The overall cost of presenting the workshop has been reduced by more than half by the supporting partners. To attend, the cost is $100 before Aug. 1 or $130 thereafter. The key speaker for the one-day session is Bob Chaworth-Musters, a business veteran and founder of the Angel Forum-BC investors' network. The event happens Aug. 13 from 7:30 a.m. to noon in CNC Room 2-321.

ICS is the primary agent for the workshop, in partnership with Northern Development Initiative Trust, National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program, Discovery Foundation and the College of New Caledonia.

A long list of major industrial projects is proposed for the area over the next 10 years. Several billion dollars are going to be spent by major corporations and divisions of government to accomplish the projects, and the more local businesses are ready to supply goods and services to these projects, the more that money stays in the local economy. Many agencies are trying to benefit from the full potential of the region's entrepreneurs in order to earn the best possible returns locally.

"We are pleased that ICS is bringing the Investor Ready Workshop to Prince George," said Heather Oland, CEO of Initiatives Prince George, the economic development branch of the municipality. "The workshop will provide new entrepreneurs with valuable information about the sources of money available for a new company and how to approach investors for financial backing."
