Eighteen secondary school students have a thousand reasons to be thankful they got involved in in School District 57 's secondary school apprenticeship program.
They each have received $1,000 scholarships for their efforts.
Sponsored by the education ministry and the Industry Training Authority, the program is open to students aged 15-19 who work in a trades-related field with an eligible sponsor. To qualify for the scholarship, the students had to maintain a C+ average in their Grade 12 courses and work a minimum of 1,100 hours of work-based training.

n The B.C. Teachers Federation announced Tuesday that the B.C. Technology Education Association (BCTEA), an affiliate organization of the BCTF, has received the support of the B.C. School Trustees' Association in its efforts to form a provincial program advisory committee for technology education.
Trustees passed a resolution at their annual general meeting last month asking the education ministry for assist in to establishing a basic equipment inventory that would help school districts produce realistic budgets for their shop programs. The committee would include representatives from industry, post-secondary training programs, and teachers of technology education.
