A section of Winnipeg Street was to be reopened by the end of the day on Tuesday after a sinkhole forced its closure.

The hole had been back-filled and workers would be repaving the section, and "reopening it to traffic later today," city hall said on social media late Tuesday morning.

The sinkhole emerged in the northbound lane just north of Carney Street-20th Avenue on Monday. Drivers had been forced to take detours along Carney and 20th as a result of the closure.

It's the same spot where a sinkhole emerged in August 2014, caused by a crack in a storm drain line by a crack in a storm drain line.

Six weeks later, workers were back on that scene to deal with a torrent of water bubbling up onto the street caused by the failure of a joint in the water transmission system.
