Two women from Quesnel are safe after spending Saturday night outdoors following a tube ride on the Cottonwood River gone awry.
The women, aged 28 and 29, were found by Quesnel search and rescue personnel on Sunday morning about six kilometres downstream from the bridge on Highway 97, which crosses the river.
According to the RCMP, the women entered the river around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and had planned to meet up with family members around 7 p.m. at the Quesnel-Hixon Road bridge. When they didn't show up after midnight, police were notified.
A search was initiated early Sunday morning and the women were found before noon with minor injuries. They were taken to G.R. Baker hospital in Quesnel, but released soon after.
Police said due to the unpredictable nature of the river and its rapids, they advise people do not try to navigate the waterway.
