The annual break from midwinter studies is set for Thursday at the University of Northern British
Columbia (UNBC).
That's when the Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) will be hosting Winterfest 2012.
Students will take cross-country skis and snowshoes out to Forests for the World; and participate in an ice hockey tournament, snow sculpture contest, and rail jam.
"Winterfest is a great way to showcase the opportunities that winter presents, especially to those students who are new to Prince George," said Nadia Nowak, NUGSS president and Winterfest co-ordinator.
All activities, aside from the rail jam, are free and open to all students.
Winterfest will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a guided snowshoe walk through Forests for the World, a snow sculpture contest, sledding, and ice skating on the campus rink, with most events centred on the NUSC field next to the bus loop.
The rail jam will begin at 11:30 a.m. for students and non-students - with the talent pool at UNBC there is sure to be some solid tricks.
In the afternoon, a chili lunch will be provided; the ice hockey tournament will start at noon; and cross-country skiing in Forests for the World will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The day will be capped off with an after-party in the Thirsty Moose Pub hosted by the Environmental
Engineering Students Association.
