Prince George Amazing Race Canada competitors make it through to next round

Grace Dove and Joe Syme made it through a series of challenges during Amazing Race Canada Season 11’s first episode

Grace Dove and Joe Syme, sibling besties from Prince George, made it through a series of challenges during Amazing Race Canada season 11’s first episode that aired Tuesday night on CTV.

They squeaked into 10th place out of 11 teams, barely missing elimination.

Dove is a Canadian Screen Award nominated actor who appeared in The Revenant as Leonardo DiCaprio’s wife; Alaska Daily, a television series with Hilary Swank and in How It Ends with Forest Whitaker, as well as the movie and television series Bones of Crows. Dove lives in Vancouver now but was born and raised in Prince George.

Grace’s brother Joe Syme is a diamond driller from Prince George.

Timing was everything during the first show and Dove and Syme couldn’t quite get it together as fast as some of the other teams during a speedy challenge but when it came to a twinkle toes finale Grace pulled a fast one, leaving the last dance to a couple of cousins, Michele Peter and Aditi Deonarine from Toronto, who were ultimately eliminated from the race.

This season there are three teams of Indigenous people, the strongest representation of First Nations people in the history of The Amazing Race Canada.

The three pairs of Indigenous competitors include Blair Gladue, a Cree man who was born in Calling Lake, Alberta and Skylene “Nipîy” Gladue, who is Cree and Dane-zaa Beaver First Nation. The Two Rebeccas team includes Rebecca Merasty, who is from Flying Dust First Nation near Meadow Lake, Sask. and Rebecca Watt, who is Dehcho Dene from Pehdzeh Ki First Nation in Wrigley, N.W.T.

And of course, Dove and Syme, who are Secwepemc from the Canim Lake Indian Band in the Cariboo region of British Columbia.

Amazing Race Canada is hosted by skeleton bobsled Olympic gold medalist racer Jon Montgomery and based on the popular U.S. version, The Amazing Race Canada challenges teams of two as they race across the country — and sometimes beyond — completing physical and mental challenges in pursuit of a grand prize of $250,000 courtesy of FUZE Iced Tea, a trip around the world and two 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS.

Leading the pack during the first episode was best-friends duo Jesse Harink and Jonathon Braun from Vancouver who are representing their 2SLGBTQIA+ community. For coming in first place, Braun and Harink won a trip to Bali and $10,000.

The show features pairs that can include married couples, partners, friends and any combination of family members like cousins, siblings and parent-child match ups, as they navigate unfamiliar terrain, interact with locals and tackle tasks that test their problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Along the way, racers may face a variety of challenges, including Detours — tasks where teams choose between two options — and Roadblocks, which require only one teammate to compete.

The race unfolds over a series of legs, each ending at a designated Pit Stop.

The last team to arrive is typically eliminated, while the first-place finishers often receive rewards.

One segment was filmed in Prince George earlier this year. That episode has yet to air.

New episodes of the Amazing Race Canada air every Tuesday on CTV.
