Prince George's library is losing its chief librarian, but Allan Wilson isn't going far.

Wilson is taking the job as UNBC's top librarian, starting on Sept. 1.

Wilson has been Prince George's top civic librarian since 2004, coming here from library leadership positions in Prince Rupert and St. Catharines before that.

"Under Mr. Wilson's guidance the Public Library has seen great changes and improvements, including the construction of the innovative SkyLab computer lab and loft, a new automation system and the now-underway Knowledge Garden project, which will result in a reading garden and performance space adjacent to the Bob Harkins Branch," library communications coordinator Andrea Palmer said.

Wilson is also well known as the city's resident juggler, frequently entertaining crowds large and small at public gatherings.

He earned a B.A. in Germanic and Slavic Studies, Russian, and German from Brock University, and a master's degree in library science from the University of Toronto. He has been a part-time history instructor at UNBC.
