During the last online poll The Citizen asked "who is the Prince George newsmaker of the year for 2017?"

Local volunteers who stepped up to help during the Cariboo wildfires evacuation were the landslide winners taking 67 per cent of the votes for a total of 352.

Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty (PTSD bill passed in House, saves man's life on plane took 14 per cent and 73 votes, while there was a three-way tie between Jared Young (local baseball player drafted by the Chicago Cubs after outstanding U.S.college season, Teresa Saunders (made the PG Symphony Orchestra a success and sits on board of Community Foundation) and Myles Mattila (wins major B.C. Hockey award and gets thank you on Twitter from Justin Trudeau) who each took six per cent of the vote with 33 votes each.

There was a total of 524 cast by readers. Remember this is not a scientific poll.
