Smoke may be visible in some local areas as the BC Wildfire Service conducts controlled burns as part of new recruit training.

The burns will be held at the Prince George Tree Improvement Station, located along the Domano Forest Service Road, starting on Friday and continuing intermittently until May 19. About 150 recruits will be involved over that time.

"Smoke may be visible southeast of College Heights and surrounding area and south of the City of Prince George," BCWS said in a statement.

Burning will proceed only if conditions are suitable.

"Staff from the BC Wildfire Service will carefully prepare, control and monitor these fires," BCWS said.
