Bylaw officials with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George said at a Thursday, Aug. 21 board of directors meeting that the owner of a rural Pineview property has disposed of almost one-third of his derelict vehicles.

The regional district was granted an injunction back in March by a BC Supreme Court Judge forcing Thomas Stander of 8570 Chilcotin Rd. to address bylaw violations caused by storing more than 100 vehicles — many of them undriveable — on his property.

When The Citizen last reported on Stander’s case back in May, regional district staff said it appeared unlikely that Stander would meet a June 5 deadline to dispose of all but 10 of his vehicles as well as mechanical and metal parts.

The board of directors gave staff permission to arrange for the removal of the vehicles at Stander’s expense should he not make the deadline.

On Aug. 21, district staff reported that Stander had removed around 50 of his 165 vehicles off the property and that they believe it is “moving towards compliance with regional district bylaws and the court order.”

“Bylaw enforcement will continue to monitor progress and collaborate with the owner to achieve voluntary compliance until the unsightly property is fully resolved, communication with the owner ceases or work stops,” the report said.

Bylaw officer Corinne Hickman told the board that she wouldn’t want to see the clean-up progress extend past December.
