With Dave Mah constantly on her mind, Karin Piche was inspired as she put the final touches on the Wheelin' Warriors of the North fourth annual Free Wheelin' dinner and dance, a fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation held April 30 at Fore Bistro at the Prince George Golf & Curling Club.

Piche's dear friend Mah, the well-known Citizen photographer, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, just a week after the Free Wheelin' gala that raised $31,500 and the day of the 24-Hour Relay for Life in which Piche was also very involved.

"The fundraiser raised $10,000 more than last year, which exceeded my goal," said Piche.

As Mah was supporting her with encouraging words via many texts, Piche found that no matter how much fundraising for cancer research was going on in Prince George there was always room for more.

"Prince George is amazing," said Piche, who says all her future fundraising efforts will be to honour the memory of Dave Mah and Nola Gordon, another friend she lost to cancer in 2012.

"I know this first hand, we have the most compassionate, generous community on the planet when it comes to this kind of fundraising. It's a crazy generous community."
