Westside Academy achieved a silver level in the Spirit Schools program, the provincial government announced Friday.
The school earned the level by participating in the adopt-a-country program, choosing Korea because they have an exchange student from the country.
After students researched and wrote mini reports on their adopted country, they made posters featuring Korean characters and symbols.
As well, the Westside Academy concert band prepared special selections for a visit from B.C.'s Ruky Abdulai, an Olympic long jump competitor.
The gold, silver and bronze medal level schools receive ActNow B.C. Athlete Ambassador visits, Vancouver 2010 mascot visits and other 2010 Winter Games-related prizes. To view all of the 2010 Spirit School stories go to www.sharingthedream.gov.bc.ca.
