More seats will soon be available to fly between Prince George and Vancouver.

Starting in November, WestJet will reconfigure its flight services in the region. The addition of the smaller Q400 planes to their fleet of 737 jets means they can do new things on their regional program like the YXS-YVR route.

"This additional service means an additional 40 seats per day between Prince George [YXS] and Vancouver [YVR]. It also gives travellers more choice in terms of flight times," said Prince George Airport Authority president and CEO, John Gibson.

WestJet has never had access to the Q400 options before, while designing a seasonal schedule for this region. In the chess game of arranging their planes and staff for maximum effect, they will use two 737s and two Q400s on the Prince George service menu, each business day.

"One of the reasons we launched WestJet Encore [their sub-corporation dedicated to regional routes], was to provide enhanced service to smaller Canadian communities," said Robert Palmer, WestJet's manager of public relations.

"Our 78-seat Q400 aircraft afford us the opportunity to add flights and improve schedules because we are able to use a more appropriately-sized aircraft on certain routes at certain times of day. Adding another flight between Prince George and Vancouver is a prime example of what we had always hoped to achieve by launching WestJet Encore."

The new WestJet service begins Nov. 25. The company also emphasized that the balancing of planes and flight crews did not hinder their special Prince George service. There will still be a weekly snow to sand flight from P.G. to Mexico. This program runs from early November to late April and seats are already booking up
