'We're going to make it snow in the Prince George Playhouse': Judy Russell talks A Christmas Carol

Local Prince George theatre impresario Judy Russell is hoping people are in the holiday spirit.

She is bringing classic holiday tale A Christmas Carol to the stage of the Prince George Playhouse for nine dates this month, starting today (Dec. 13) and running until Dec. 22.

It's the third time in the past 10 years she has produced the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's change of heart about the Christmas season.

Russell says the story is near and dear to her heart, as it has been important to her family in many ways.

"Way back, my dad used to read us these stories when we were kids. And in the '50s, he played Jacob Marley in a play. My mother was also in a radio play (of the story). It's a wonderful, wonderful movie I feel very close to."

Russell says not only is the story a "timeless classic" but her team has worked hard to make the play feel as immersive as possible. There will be seven short vignettes full of colour and movement.

"We have a set that is so well done, it looks like a pop-up book, and we will be using fog and show to make it real. ... If it doesn't feel like Christmas without snow, you can get that if you come see A Christmas Carol. We're going to make it snow in the Playhouse."

Russell is excited to welcome back a familiar crew of PG players, including Scott Roberts, Melissa Glover and Dwight Wolfe.

The play has been adapted and will be directed by Russell's daughter-in-law, Anna Russell.

Russell says that no matter what little tweaks have been made, one thing is certain.

"Scrooge is going to wake up one morning and become a much better person."

Tickets are available through Central Interior Tickets. More information can be found on the event's Facebook page.
