Evacuation order lifted for Snaking River wildfire

The evacuation alert had been in effect for parts of the Cariboo Regional District and Nazko First Nation

The Cariboo Regional District and Nasko First Nation lifted an evacuation alert related to a wildfire in the Snaking River area around 65 kilometres west of Quesnel on Monday, Aug. 11.

The alert went into effect on Aug. 3.

As previously reported by The Citizen, the fire first discovered on July 31 is believed to have been started by a lightning strike.

As of 2:36 p.m. on Aug. 11, BC Wildfire Service reported that the 879.8-hectare fire was being held in place.

“Should conditions change, an evacuation alert and/or evacuation order will be reinstated as necessary,” read a release from the regional district and First Nation.
