A woman tried to flee to Prince George after abducting her own child from its father.

According to a release from North District RCMP, several detachments were told of a vehicle heading south to the northern capital on Thursday (Dec. 10).

It was eventually stopped near Ranson Road west of Chetwynd where police recovered the child safely and unharmed, but also found a rifle and other weapons inside.

Mounties in Fort St. John said they received information that the woman took her own child after allegedly pointing a weapon at the father.

"Due to the circumstances surrounding the abduction, a BC Amber Alert was being prepared," explained Inspector Tony Hanson.

"Fortunately, it was not required due to the quick actions of officers who were able to locate and recover the child unharmed."

Since the recovery, two people have been arrested, remain in custody and are set to appear in court today (Dec. 11).
