Two Mounties in Prince George were injured after being hit by a well-known suspect during a traffic stop.

Prince George RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst. Jennifer Cooper says police initiated the traffic stop in the 3700-block Landsdowne Road just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 6).

Officers believed the driver of the vehicle was prohibited from driving.

Cooper says when one officer went to the vehicle to talk to the driver, the vehicle sped up and hit the officer in the arm with a side mirror.

Another officer then moved his car to attempt to stop the suspect from leaving the area. The cruiser was then hit by the suspect's vehicle.

Cooper says the officers involved did not suffer serious injuries.

More officers arrived to help search for the suspect but found the vehicle a short time later abandoned.

Justin Pawluck, a 37-year-old who's known to police, has been charged with the following offenses by the B.C. Prosecution Service:

  • Assault police officer with a weapon (two counts)
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest (two counts)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from police

Cooper says no other details will be released at this time.
