Prince George is seeing drought-like conditions, with the Fraser and Nechako rivers near Cottonwood Island Park being non-existent.
Now, we know part of why that is.
Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon with Environment and Climate Change Canada tells PrinceGeorgeMatters that precipitation levels were extremely low which led to the driest October on record.
"I think these states are still technically preliminary and not official, but it does seem to be that we had a very, very dry October for the Prince George area," Sekhon says. "There was about 16 mm of precipitation in October and the normal is 63.3 (mm), so quite a discrepancy there."
He adds the dry conditions were caused by a ridge of high pressure that sat over B.C. for most of last month, which made it quite dry for most of the province.
The temperature was normal for the month at 4.2 C, with the average being 4.4 C.
