Service was restored to homes in the Pinewood Avenue area shortly before noon Friday after a city crew repaired a broken watermain.
Workers remained on the scene until about 3 p.m. back-filling and cleaning up the site.
The break, located between Westwood Drive and Ivy Street, was reported just after midnight.
A crew responded immediately and turned of water to the affected area. Service was then restored briefly but then turned off once again at 9 a.m. to finish repairs.
City communications manager Todd Corrigall said the pipe's age may have been the reason for the break but the exact cause is still to be determined.
"Until they take that pipe back to the yard and the engineers grab a look at it, it's kind of speculation," he said.
Officials should know by the middle next week.
Once service is restored, residents are asked to run their water until it is clear.
