Prince George Heritage Commission George Davison provides an annual report during the Monday, March 10, 2025 meeting of city council.

Prince George city council finalized a bylaw amendment increasing the number of members on the Heritage Commission from seven to 12 at its Monday, Aug. 18 meeting.

Also included in the amendment are requirements that at least one representative on the commission should come from each of the Exploration Place and the Prince George Public Library.

Commission chair George Davison made multiple requests of council earlier in the year, including increasing the number of members, increasing the number of annual meetings, endorsing reconciliation with Lheidli T’enneh First Nation through the commission’s work, providing additional funding to update and replace heritage signs and increase staff support for the commission.

In a July interview with The Citizen, Davison said it made sense to add library and museum representatives to the commission because while they had previously been invited to meetings, they had few opportunities to speak because they were not official members.

“Adding designated seats for those two entities makes a lot of sense because they are partners in heritage in Prince George,” Davison said at the time.
