Sharel Warrington is looking forward to her first roadtrip as head of the newly-elected District 57 school board.

Warrington was acclaimed as board chair at Tuesday night's public meeting at the district office and she'll get her first chance to represent the board and learn more about her new duties when she and the other six trustees gather in Vancouver for three days of meetings with the B.C. Trustees Association (BCTA) trustee academy.

"We began work last Saturday on governance planning and working together to develop some strategies as a board, so the work has already started," said Warrington.

Also Tuesday, Sharon Bourassa was acclaimed as vice-chair, a position she held from 2005-2008 with the Chilliwack school board. Trish Bella, who served as vice-chair with the former board, retained her role as District 57 trustee representative with the BCTA. New trustee Tim Bennett was elected the board's representative for the B.C. Public School Employers Association. Betty Bekkering, Kate Cooke and Brenda Hooker were also sworn in.
