An American citizen wanted in multiple jurisdictions in the U.S. was arrested by Ashcroft RCMP on Tuesday morning (April 28).
The 29-year-old Fresno, California man was arrested just before 9:30 a.m., in connection to a report of a break-and-enter in progress to a commercial building on Cornwall Road in Ashcroft.
"Police investigators also believe the suspect is connected to a stolen motor vehicle recovered in the Ashcroft area on April 26," notes a news release.
Mounties say a white Mini Cooper had been left abandoned at a gas station in the village, after it had reportedly been taken from the Lower Mainland earlier that day.
"Authorities now believe that the suspect had illegally crossed the border into Canada, and is responsible for a number of crimes throughout Canada and the U.S.," the release states.
Police say they've liaised with Canada Border Services Agency officials, who have issued a detention order for the man.
Efforts remain underway to return him to the U.S.
Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216.
