Another Prince George big box store has confirmed a COVID-19 case among its employees as well as another involving a third-party vendor.

Walmart Canada is the third large retail store in under a week to reveal a member of its team has been infected with the virus, PrinceGeorgeMatters has confirmed.

The company says the employee last worked Nov. 24.

Spokesperson Felicia Fefer also says a third-party vendor tested positive and last worked on Nov. 2.

"If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, we take a number of actions including informing local public health authorities," she said.

"We respond transparently to requests received about the number of confirmed cases in stores, distribution centres or offices from customers or media."

Walmart says they will continue to take the following precautions and measures of support:

  • Increased cleaning throughout the store
  • Wellness checks that include a temperature check for all associates at the start of each shift
  • Limiting the number of customers shopping in the store at one time
  • Cleaning shopping carts
  • Encouraging regular handwashing
  • Regular cleaning of work areas (including checkouts)
  • Installed plexi-glass dividers at registers, customer service desks and in our pharmacies
  • Introduced floor markings and one-way aisles to create physical distancing
  • Mandatory masks for customers and associates

On Nov. 27, both the Real Canadian Superstore and Canadian Tire confirmed to PrinceGeorgeMatters they had positive tests come back involving its employees.

Both companies said the stores increased cleaning and sanitation measures and no customers were at risk.

On Wednesday (Nov. 25), the College Heights Tim Hortons location also confirmed an employee has tested positive, which promoted the closure of its restaurant until Dec. 1 for extra cleaning.

Fort St. John's Walmart location has also confirmed a case of COVID-19 from one of its employees, who last worked Nov. 25.
