Locals are ramping up a weeks-old search for a beloved pet by organizing a "Find Ollie Walk" today for the missing feline.
Brenda Colebrook was motivated to action after a Florida family wrote a letter to Citizen readers about losing the cat on a trip to Alaska over the July long weekend.
After passing through McLeese Lake, the family realized the cat either jumped out there at the Cariboo Wood Shop or at a pit stop at the Pine Centre Mall in Prince George.
"After spending a few days searching unsuccessfully (the) family had to continue their travels toward Florida leaving Ollie, their white Ragdoll cat, and a piece of their broken hearts, in Prince George," Colebrook said.
Colebrook is asking all cat lovers and those touched by the story to come out and help.
"The hot days would have been tough on him, but now that it is cooler he is probably on the move," she said.
Ollie is a white long-haired cat with gray tips, dark brown ears, a dark face and blue eyes.
Colebrook's advice to searchers: "This beautiful kitty responds to his name 'Ollie' and 'Here kitty kitty,' and to the sound of cat treats rattling in a bag, so please bring one with you."
Colebrook asks that good Samaritans leave their pooches at home for today's search given Ollie's fear of dogs.
The walk is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will start from the BMX track in behind the YMCA.
