The council holds an election every three years to pick a tribal chief and vice-chief. This year, half that job is already done. The vice-chief position was won by acclamation by Dolly Abraham.

Voting members have only one choice to make, and it is between two candidates vying for the chief's position: Valerie O'Connal and Terry Teegee. Neither have held the chief's position before.

Incumbent tribal chief David Luggi served two terms and, as promised when he won the first time, declared from the call of this year's election that he would not run beyond that promised duration.

Eligible members of the eight nations can cast their ballots at the following locations:

- Nadleh Whut'en Band Office - Fort Fraser

- Ts'lkazkoh (Burns Lake) Band Office - Burns Lake

- Nak'azdli Band Office - Fort St. James

- Suikuz First Nation Band Office - Vanderhoof

- Stellat'en Band Office - Fraser Lake

- Takla Lake Band Office - Takla Landing

- Tl'azten Nation Band Office - Fort St. James

- Wet'suwet'en Band Office- Burns Lake

- Carrier Sekani Tribal Office - Prince George

The eight member nations include: Nadleh Whut'en First Nation (Fraser Lake and Fort Fraser), Nak'azdli First Nation (Fort St. James), Stellat'en First Nation (Fraser Lake), Saik'uz First Nation (Vanderhoof), Takla Lake First Nation (Takla Lake), Tl'azt'en Nation (Stuart Lake and Tachie), Ts'il Kaz Koh (Burns Lake), and Wet'suwet'en First Nation (Burns Lake and Broman Lake).

An advance poll was held July 15, the totals of which will be counted today and factored into the combined totals from the polling stations across the region.
