Preventing crime and keeping the community safe is not just the job of the police, it is also done effectively by volunteers.
People from the public who stepped forward to help give their time to these initiatives were honoured by the Prince George RCMP at a reception this past week.
"We have two volunteers in particular who were singled out for their contributions to the community," said Wendy Moore, Community Policing Centre co-ordinator. "They each have donated more than 6,000 hours to community policing and crime prevention initiatives. They are incredibly helpful to us."
The two - Jim Morgan and Elsie Adrian - are elders who still involve themselves on a regular basis with many of the programs the RCMP supports through the Community Policing Centre.
"They have done a lot for Prince George," said Moore. "They have been great examples of what an individual can do to help everyone."
