The push for volunteers has begun at Canada Winter Games House.

On Thursday, members of the 2015 Canada Winter Games executive team held the first of what will be many information sessions for prospective volunteers.

At present, the group is focused on landing their senior planning team for a variety of sports and venues.

"We have 827 days to prepare for what's coming," said Christine Nicholls, volunteer workforce manager, adding that during the duration of the games, all eyes will be on Prince George. "We have 18 days to wow the nation."

Those who commit to be sports leaders and venue leaders will each have a team to help them do the high-level preparations and follow through of ensuring the facilities and fields of play are to the correct specifications and that everything and everyone involved is where they need to be.

In addition to the senior planning volunteers, there will need to be thousands more - at least 4,500 - with 10 per cent of that force required to be bilingual.

"This is going to be a volunteer organization with support from staff [to whom they will report]," said director of sport and venues Phil Beaulieu. "It's not a top-down structure."

Once the planners are in place, meetings will be held in January to start sharing some of the background information available from other Games.

"We have equipment lists [from the 2011 Halifax games] right down to the amount of shuttlecocks they had to buy," Beaulieu said.

Those interested in signing up are invited to submit resumes, which will be vetted and team leaders selected by the end of the year. Anyone who wants to volunteer but hasn't already submitted their name, can do so online at www.canadagames2015.ca. The deadline for applications for the senior planning positions is the end of November.

Further volunteer opportunities in other areas, such as athletic services or security, will be posted in the coming weeks.
