Volkswagen no match for locomotive

Tallus Road was the scene Wednesday of a collision between a CN Rail train and a Volkswagen Jetta.

Tallus Road was the scene Wednesday of a collision between a CN Rail train and a Volkswagen Jetta.

RCMP say the vehicle, driven by a 57-year-old McLeod Lake man, became stuck in the ruts of a track crossing located north of Prince George near Highway 97.

"The driver saw the train coming and got out of the vehicle. No one was injured in the crash," said RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass, media liaison officer.

The Volkswagen was severely damaged, but the locomotive emerged unscathed.

Douglass reminds motorists to be extra cautious around rail way tracks at this time of the year since buildups of ice and snow make tracks more difficult to cross.
