One killed in collision, police confirm

Traffic on Highway 16 at Red Pass, 40 km west of the B.C.-Alberta border, was at a standstill after a fatal motor vehicle accident closed the highway in both directions Sunday morning. The highway reopened Sunday evening.

A deadly motor vehicle collision closed Highway 16  between Tete Jaune Cache and Moose Lake for most of Sunday.

The collision involved two vehicles, North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, confirmed.

"Sadly a passenger in one of the vehicles was killed as a result of the crash," Saunderson added.

Three others were taken to hospital with injuries.

"One person is said to be in critical condition, while others have sustained non-life threatening injuries," Saunderson said.

RCMP were called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m.

The closure affected an 18.8-kilometre section of the road from four kilometres west of Moose Lake to 16 kilometres east of the Tete Jaune Cache junction where it meets Highway 5.

Saunderson said the the investigation is ongoing and causal factors have yet to be confirmed.
