Incident temporarily closes intersection of Fifth and Stuart

Citizen staff saw a damaged red pickup truck, a toppled tree and an RCMP helicopter

The entrance to Stuart Drive off of Fifth Avenue, near the Fortis BC building, was temporarily blocked off on Thursday afternoon after some sort of motor vehicle incident.

When a Citizen reporter arrived on scene around 4:15 p.m., a red Ford pickup truck had been loaded onto a flat-bed. Damage to the rear of the truck could be seen and shards of glass and plastic were scattered on the road.

A short tree on a property near the intersection had been toppled, with marks from an impact visible on the lower trunk.

Behind the flat-bed, a police cruiser blocked access to the scene from further down Stuart Drive.

Another Citizen reporter saw what appeared to be a police helicopter circling in the air above the neighbourhood, near École Lac des Bois. It's not known if its presence was related to the other incident.

A photo submitted by a witness showed the red truck on top of the fallen tree, with the back-right tire bent inwards and the tailgate partially peeled off from the body.

The Citizen has reached out to the RCMP for more information.
