A Vanderhoof man faces several charges for allegedly using his car as a weapon.

Norman Stacey Weinhardt, 32, was arrested Saturday afternoon after RCMP were called to the A&W restaurant on Highway 16 near Burrard Avenue where they were told Weinhardt deliberately struck a pedestrian.

Weinhardt had fled the scene, Vanderhoof RCMP Sgt. Jason Keays said, but police were soon called to a location on Spruce Street, about a kilometre to the east, where several people were allegedly assaulted.

While on their way to the scene, police spotted the a vehicle matching the description and Weinhardt was arrested without incident.

Weinhardt faces 22 charges, including four counts of assault with a weapon, six counts of uttering threats, three counts of assault and one count each of leaving the scene of an accident and dangerous driving.

He also faces sevent counts each of breach of an undertaking or a recognizance.

After initially refusing medical attention, the victim of the incident at the A&W has since sought medical treatment and Weinhardt may face more serious charges depending on how severe those injuries turn out, Keays said.

Weinhardt remains in custody and is next scheduled to appear in Prince George provincial court on Wednesday on those charges.
