Even though the Prince George Public Library (PGPL) is closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 outbreak, you can still use your library card to the fullest.

A library card grants you access to thousands and thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, movies, and more online. You can borrow them, instantly, for free, using just the device in your hand.

The PGPL says access to free digital materials is extremely helpful to keep local residents entertained as they stay home in practicing social distancing to help flatten the curve.

With a library card, holders can access, download and listen to audiobooks and eBooks through services like BCLibraries2go and EBSCOhost eBook collection.

For kids, there’s Teen BookCloud and Tumblebook Library.

You can instantly borrow digital movies, music, ebooks, comics and audiobooks through hoopla and Instant Flix, which streams award-winning shorts, feature films, and documentaries with thousands of titles.

You can even peruse magazines digitally with RB digital magazines, which gives access to full copies of your favourite magazines and works on a variety of mobile devices.

There’s even a convenient free app called Libby, which makes it easy for you to access library materials like audiobooks and eBooks on your smartphone.

The Prince George Public Library’s website has more details on these services.

If you are kicking yourself for not having a library card, don’t worry because you can also apply for a temporary one online.

As far as physical items, the library has automatically extended due dates for borrowed materials to April 30, 2020 and closed book drops until further notice.

The library says this affects approximately 25,000 items. It has also suspended all holds, but says you will not lose your spot in the queue.

If you have a question about your account, email customer-accounts@pgpl.ca. If you need help with a reference question, email ask@pgpl.ca.
