Update: Highway 97 reopened following fatal collision

Collision occurred near Widdis Road, south of Woodpecker; claimed life of pedestrian

Highway 97 has been reopened following a fatal collision south of Woodpecker.

 RCMP, who said a pedestrian was the victim, were on the scene near Widdis Road, about 45 kilometres south of Prince George by 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The site had been closed to traffic in both directions for several hours to allow police to gather evidence.

Police are asking any witnesses, including people with dashcam video who may have travelled the area between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. to contact the B.C. Highway Patrol in Prince George at 250-649-4004 and quote file 2021-855.

No further information is available at this time and updates are not anticipated as the investigation continues, police said.
